Why can’t we station troops on our Mexican border to prevent the influx of illegal immigrants? Could it be our elected officials think more about not offending potential Hispanic voters who could benefit their political party for years to come, and not those who voted them into office?

There’s the first mistake.
One can argue, as I have, that our borders should be protected and respected. People should come here the right way, legally. And, fortunately, the Obama administration has signaled its intent to crack down on employers who illegally hire undocumented workers.
Many e-mailers want to round ‘em all up and truck them back to Mexico. Even if that were logistically possible, only the federal government legally can do it. The feds also are responsible for guarding the border.
So do something already!
Do we really want someone who’s sneezing, coughing and exhibiting flu-like symptoms that are contagious to be trying to ride it out without seeing a doctor? Not if we’re sane and attempting to contain an epidemic.

Millions of Hispanics, mostly poor and uneducated, have immigrated to America illegally since the early 1990s. Most are Mexicans and most of them are high school dropouts. Compared to what they might have had in a slum or impoverished rural area of Mexico or Central America, these immigrants have done well here.
It has been different story for their neighbors — middle-class Americans. For them, illegal immigration has often meant a deterioration of their neighborhoods, public schools, and their quality of life — especially across America’s Southwest.

If there is one thing that the thousands of protesters who hit the streets Friday for May Day demonstrations on immigration policy can agree on, it’s this: The current system isn’t working.

At his 100th day press conference Wednesday, President Obama called the current immigration system “broken.” He said that America cannot continue with it.
“It’s not good for anybody,” he said. “It’s not good for American workers. It’s dangerous for Mexican would-be workers who are trying to cross a dangerous border. It is putting a strain on border communities who oftentimes have to deal with a host of undocumented workers, and it keeps those undocumented workers in the shadows, which means they can be exploited at the same time as they’re depressing U.S. wages.”
Ok, so I’ll give him that… he’s not totally blind.
The cause of the highest levels of immigration the UK has ever seen is not, as the government claims, global population movement but rather a series of failures of Government policies, says a new report from independent think tank Migrationwatch UK.
The report, entitled “How did immigration get out of control?”, says that the Government has tried to promote the view that world trends have been responsible for a trebling of net foreign immigration since 1997.

Federal Homeland Security officials have said that the Mexican border already has adequate surveillance and that it doesn’t need to close because swine flu is already in the U.S. State lawmakers say officials should move cautiously.
Ahhh-(bullcrap!)-Choo! If there was truly “adequate surveillance” on the Mexican Border we would have the frackin’ Swine Flu! And as an added bonus we wouldn’t have such high unemployment or such a strain on our Medicaid/Lonestar Card/etc.

On a typical day, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials arrest 73 criminals at ports of entry, seize 7,621 pounds of narcotics, and apprehend roughly 2,796 individuals who have illegally entered the U.S.

The Spoof : Texas Secedes from Union – Joins Mexico! funny satire story.
The state of Texas today seceded from the United States and joined with Mexico, a nation it had once fought for independence from at the Alamo. Governor Rick Perry, disgruntled with the economic politics of President Obama and dreaming of the wonderful economic policies employed by his predecessor Bush, a former Texas Governor, carried out his threat to rent the nation by severing its second largest state away.
Pretty scary thought huh? How bout this:
Seeing a great opportunity, Mexican drug cartels immediately raced across Texas taking over farms and converting them to drug growing fields. Texas Rangers were rounded up and shipped south to help fight the entrenched war going on in the ex-border towns. The Mexican government swiftly took control of all oil fields and nationalized them into the monopolistic governmental oil company Pemex. Many Texans tried to flee the ensuing violence and disorder by crossing the border to New Mexico and Arkansas, only to be captured by INS agents and returned.
It’s a spoof of course – no, chicken little. The sky is not falling.
Deep down it’s one of my biggest fears. I really hope the rest of the country will have our back soon. We’re already being invaded. Just look around, walk down the aisle at the grocery store and listen to the foreign sounds. Read the package on your bathroom tissue – only both languages huh.
